The town council in Queen Creek—a small suburb about 35 southeast of Phoneix—voted this week to form its own police department.

According to CBS News, Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has been the town's law enforcement provider, but elected officials there have not been satisfied with MCSO services they wish to provide to citizens, such as community policing initiatives.

The Town will be looking for the police chief this spring and it is expected to take almost two years to fully staff the agency once the chief is hired. MCSO will continue to provide enforcement services in the meantime.
