A former trooper with the Colorado State Patrol was handcuffed in front of his 6-year-old daughter on a softball field Sunday by officers with the Brighton Police Department who were enforcing "social distancing" rules.
According to ABC News, 33-year-old Matt Mooney had walked with his wife and daughter to a nearby park Sunday to play softball.
As the family was throwing the ball around, police arrived and placed Mooney under arrest.
Mooney said he told officers that he was familiar with the posted rules and believed he and his family were in compliance and practicing proper social distancing.
Mooney said officers handcuffed him and placed him in a patrol car for a period of time while they contacted supervisors for additional guidance on the incident.
The department apologized Tuesday afternoon, calling the incident an "overreach by our police officers."
