An officer with the Canton (GA) Police Department explained in a video posted to social media what it was like to rescue two teens who had become stranded in a frigid river.

The department posted a video on Facebook, explaining how the quick thinking and heroic effort of Officer Luis Salas helped saved the lives of two teenagers who had fallen into a Georgia river.

The incident occurred on April 21 at the Etowah River Park.

In the video Salas explained how he shed his duty belt and his ballistic vest and dove into the water and swam downstream.

He further explained that having served in the United States Marine Corps he was accustomed to swimming in cold water.

"I have taken swimming quals—qualifications—many times and it's always been in cold water," he said in the video. "Always. It's never been warm."
