An officer with the Union Township (OH) Police Department fatally shot a knife-wielding man on Thursday night.
According to NBC News, the assailant—identified by police as 49-year-old Robert Tincher—was armed with an edged weapon as the officer responded to a call for service about a domestic disturbance.
Tincher reportedly threatened the officer and refused to comply with the officer's commands to drop the weapon.
The officer—fearing for his own safety—opened fire, striking the assailant, police say.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital where he subsequently died.
The officer was reportedly not injured.
