An off-duty officer with the Chicago Police Department was shot in the leg early Tuesday but is expected to fully recover.
According to ABC News, the officer was getting into his personal vehicle when he was approached by two unknown suspects, one of whom displayed a handgun and fired shots at the officer
The officer—whose name has not yet been released—reportedly return fire, but it is unclear if the attacker were struck.
The officer was transported to a nearby hospital where he is listed in fair condition.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing and the suspects remain at large.
