New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on social media that he plans to sign a proposed piece of legislation that will make public the personnel records of police officers, firefighters, and correction officers.

According to Bloomberg News, Cuomo said on Twitter, "The Legislature just voted to repeal 50-A and I will sign it into law this week. The countless voices for reform united and were heard."
Cuomo added in his Twitter post, "NOW is the moment for real change."
The current legislation—which now appears to be soon voided with the governor's signature—has shielded police disciplinary records from the public for 44 years.
The legislation was sponsored by Bronx State Senator Jamaal Bailey and Manhattan Assembly member Dan O'Donnell.
