Minnesota Officer Shot in Hand by Suspect Resisting Arrest

An officer with the St. Cloud (MN) Police Department was shot in the hand over the weekend while trying to arrest an armed teenage subject. However, the story told on social media sites said that police had shot a black youth, sparking public outcry.

According to CBS News, police say they had responded to reports of a subject wielding a gun and upon arrival at the scene encountered an 18-year-old male—whose name has not been released—fleeing the area on foot.

Police pursued the man, eventually catching up to him and attempting to bring him under control and into custody. During that encounter, the man drew a handgun and shot one of the officers in the hand, police say.

Although police did not return fire they were able to arrest the assailant.

The officer who was shot—a 14-year veteran of the force—was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated and is now listed in stable condition.

The suspected gunman faces multiple charges and remains in police custody.
