An officer with the Chicago Police Department was shot in the knee on Monday night while attempting to apprehend an individual who was wanted for an aggravated assault with a handgun earlier this month.
According to the Chicago Tribune, police say that as officers approached the subject—who has not yet been identified by name—the individual drew a handgun and opened fire, striking one of the officers at the scene.
The officer was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and is now listed in good condition.
The department said in a statement that officers did not return fire, but that the subject was taken into custody.
Charges against the suspect are pending.
