Texas Officer Critically Injured In Attempt to Deploy Tire Deflation Device

Officer Matt Brazeal suffered "catastrophic" injuries and will likely spend the next year—or more—in the hospital recovering after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to deploy tire deflation device.

An officer with the Fort Worth (TX) Police Department was attempting to end a vehicle pursuit over the weekend by deploying a tire deflation device on a roadway when he was struck and very badly injured.

According to WFAA-TV, Officer Matt Brazeal suffered "catastrophic" injuries and will likely spend the next year—or more—in the hospital recovering.

Manny Ramirez—the president of the Fort Worth Police Officers Association—praised Brazeal's resilience, saying, "I don't think there's a tougher person on the planet."

Brazeal has been with the Fort Worth Police Department three years but has served previously with other Texas police agencies as well as with the United States Army.

The agency said on its Facebook page that the suspect was arrested for attempted murder and evading arrest with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.
