An officer with the Syracuse Police Department who became nationally famous after a viral video showed him challenging local young people to one-on-one competitions has been added as an assistant coach for the Cicero-North Syracuse's boys basketball team during the school district's board meeting Monday night.
According to Syracuse.com, Officer Brandon Hanks has aspired to be a basketball coach for some time, and has used the game to connect with area youth while out on patrol.
"It was always a dream of mine to coach basketball," Hanks said. "I'm looking forward to building with the kids. Not only am I teaching the fundamentals of basketball, I'm also here as a life coach."
