North Dakota Officer Shot Friday Night

An officer with the Grafton (ND) Police Department was shot in a gunfight on Friday night.

According to KFGO-TV , police say the incident occurred when officers with the Grafton (ND) Police Department and deputies with the Walsh County Sheriff’s Department attempted to apprehend 37-year-old Ruben Cruz on an outstanding federal warrant.

During the arrest attempt, Cruz fled on foot and then opened fire on law enforcement striking Grafton police officer Lucas Campoverde in the chest, police say. Cruz was injured when officers returned fire.

Officer Campoverde is now listed in stable condition.
