The Michigan State Police said on Thursday morning that troopers are in a standoff in Mancelona with a man who assaulted an officer with the Petoskey (MI) Police Department. As of 5:30 pm Eastern, the incident was reportedly still in progress.
According to 9&10 News, the man reportedly led troopers on a vehicle pursuit after assaulting an officer who had contacted him due to reports that the subject had attempted to swerve his vehicle at other drivers.
The suspect had several children in the vehicle with him as troopers attempt to make contact with him, police say.
The Petoskey officer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.
Two officers were shot in Gainesville, Florida, by a man who police say was leaving an area where he had killed a man inside a business. The suspect exited his vehicle in what the chief termed an “ambush-style” attack.
