A former officer with the Omaha (NE) Police Department now faces several charges in connection with the 2018 death of his then-girlfriend.

According to the Omaha World-Herald, 54-year-old Craig Wiech turned himself in Tuesday to the Omaha Police Department on a warrant charging him with tampering with physical evidence in the August 2018 death of 48-year-old Carrie Brown.

Brown was found dead with her hand gripping a semi-automatic pistol in a manner that led investigators to question whether or not she had died by suicide.

Other evidence uncovered during the investigation led police to suspect Wiech of foul play.

A warrant for his arrest was filed Tuesday.

Wiech surrendered to authorities on Tuesday and has been charged with tampering with physical evidence. Other charges may be pending.
