An officer with the Miami Police Department has recently raised more than $20,000 in funds to be devoted to the fight against childhood cancer.

According to CBS News, Officer Joe McCrink completed more than 1,000 miles of bike rides in the month of September in an effort to raise awareness of—and increase funding for—childhood cancer.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. First responders, hospital workers, and private citizens have spent the month participating in a variety of activities aimed at raising funds for cancer research.

However, this year, many efforts have had to be held "virtually" amid concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.

But Officer Joe McCrink was able to remain "socially distanced" on his bicycle even as he was socially engaged in giving to his community with his fund-raising rides.
