A man who attacked an officer with the Paris (France) Police Department in in 2017 has been sentenced to 28 years in jail for the attempted assault.
A man who attacked an officer with the Paris (France) Police Department in in 2017 has been sentenced to 28 years in jail for the attempted assault.
According to Voice of America, the Algerian man—identified as 43-year-old Farid Ikken—had attempted an attack on officers at the site of Cathedral of Notre-Dame following the Charlie Hebdo magazine terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 17 journalists and staff.
He reportedly rushed toward officers, shouting "This is for Syria!" striking one officer with a hammer before being shot and wounded by other responding officers.
Ikken testified that he had no regrets for his role in the incident, adding he still felt a "satisfaction of duty accomplished" after the attack.
He reportedly said in materials read during the proceedings, "It's time for revenge. It's time for jihad."
