Officers with the National City (CA) Police Department dove into San Diego Bay to rescue a man who appeared to be drowning after being thrown from his personal watercraft vehicle on Monday afternoon.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, officers had responded to multiple calls of a man flailing in the water.

Corporal Javier Cornejo was the first to locate the victim, seeing only an arm waving from the waters. He dove into the bay and pulled the man—whose name has not been released—to the safety of a patrol boat operated by Officers Michael Sabbagh and Janel Seney.

"I was just happy we helped out the guy and he didn’t drown," Corporal Cornejo later told reporters.
