At least one FBI agent shot and mortally wounded a person outside CIA headquarters in the Langley area of McLean, Va., on Monday evening, the bureau said in a statement, saying that the individual exited his vehicle with a weapon.
The Washington Post reports the FBI released few details about the encounter and the person who was shot. In a statement, the FBI said the person had been involved in a “security incident” outside the CIA before he “emerged from his vehicle with a weapon.”
The mortally wounded person was taken to a hospital where he died, the FBI said Tuesday.
The shooting occurred around 6 p.m., the FBI said.
Officials familiar with the matter, speaking on the condition of anonymity to the Washington Post describe an ongoing probe, said the person had pulled up to the CIA security gate hours earlier, and the shooting occurred after lengthy negotiations with him. The FBI said it was reviewing the incident.
