Man Shot Georgia Deputy, Killed Cashier Over COVID Mask
“[Victor Lee] Tucker left the store without making his purchase, but immediately returned inside. Tucker walked directly back to the cashier, pulled out a handgun and shot her,” the GBI said in a news release.
A DeKalb County, GA, deputy was wounded and a cashier was killed when a man opened fire in a grocery store Monday. The shooting was reportedly over a COVID mask requirement at the store.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the cashier told Victor Lee Tucker, Jr., 30, of Palmetto, to put on a mask and that’s when the chaos unfolded, WSB reports.
“Tucker left the store without making his purchase, but immediately returned inside. Tucker walked directly back to the cashier, pulled out a handgun and shot her,” the GBI said in a news release.
The suspect and the deputy reportedly exchanged fire.
“The deputy returned fire, shooting the suspect who has also been transported to a local hospital,” said DeKalb County Sherriff Melody Maddox.
The deputy was wounded, and is reportedly in stable condition, CBS46 reports.
Another cashier was grazed by a bullet. She was treated at the scene.
Tucker is in custody and in stable condition.
