A woman who had just graduated from the police academy Friday and had joined the Waveland (MS) Police Department was killed in a crash Sunday morning.
Waveland Police Chief Mike Prendergast confirmed the death of Officer Katie Cash.
She was the passenger of a vehicle involved in a car wreck on Highway 603 in Hancock County. According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the scene around 3:30 in the morning.
WLOX reports the vehicle left the road and flipped. The reason for the crash is not yet known.
She suffered fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cash had just graduated from the police academy on July 16. She is survived by two daughters.
