CA Officers Seriously Critically Injured in Head-On Crash

Two California officers were seriously injured in a Sunday morning crash that killed a 25-year-old driver.

The Galt (CA) Police Department said in a Monday afternoon Facebook post that Officer Harminder Grewal and Officer Kapri Herrera remain hospitalized in intensive care, the Sacramento Bee reports.

The deceased man was identified as 25-year-old Manjot Singh Thind of Manteca, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

“Doctors and hospital staff have worked tirelessly to stabilize Officer Herrera and Officer Grewal,” the department said. ”As of this morning, Officer Herrera remains in ICU and is listed in critical, but stable condition. Officer Grewal remains in critical condition in the ICU.

Thind was driving a pickup truck when he crossed the center median leading to a head-on collision with the police vehicle around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on Highway 99, according the the California Highway Patrol.

Grewal and Herrera, who were headed to the Caldor Fire as part of the state’s mutual aid emergency program, had to be extricated from the patrol vehicle.
