Michigan Trooper and Suspect Shot at Traffic Stop

The trooper had stopped the driver of a Nissan for failure to stop at a stop sign. After the driver was arrested for a suspended license, the trooper made contact with a passenger.

A Michigan State Police trooper and a suspect were wounded in a shooting during a traffic stop Wednesday.

The trooper is in stable condition. The shooting suspect is in serious condition.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. in Niles.

The trooper had stopped the driver of a Nissan for failure to stop at a stop sign. After the driver was arrested for a suspended license, the trooper made contact with a passenger, MLive reports.

The passenger got out of the vehicle at the trooper’s request before a struggle ensued and shots were fired by the passenger and trooper, state police said.
