Georgia Officer and Two Women Killed at Domestic, Suspect Dead

Field Training Officer Henry Laxson was shot and killed during the domestic response, which began around 8:40 p.m. in Rex, Clayton County police Chief Kevin Roberts said early Wednesday.

A Clayton County, GA, police officer was killed and another wounded responding to a domestic incident that killed two other people Tuesday night. The suspect was also killed.

Field Training Officer Henry Laxson was shot and killed during the domestic response, which began around 8:40 p.m. in Rex, Clayton County police Chief Kevin Roberts said early Wednesday.

A 12-year-old boy who had been shot in the face led officers to a home, Roberts said. There, a man fired shots at officers before running to the rear of the home, the chief said. Behind the home, the same man was involved in a shootout with additional officers who had arrived at the scene, the chief said.

The suspect, identified by the GBI as 35-year-old Arthur Allen Gilliam of Rex, was killed, Roberts said. Investigators believe Gilliam killed two women, whose names were not released early Wednesday, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

The child was in critical condition and Officer Alex Chandler was shot in the hand.

Jim Lee, who worked with Officer Laxson, told 11Alive that Laxson was engaged to his fiancé just a few weeks ago.

Lee said Laxson had been with the department since around 2017 when he was a rookie officer. According to the Clayton County Police Department's Facebook page, he was promoted to his current position in October.
