NC Deputy Fatally Shoots Driver While Being Dragged

While being dragged, the deputy reportedly drew his duty pistol and shot the driver. The deputy was then thrown from the vehicle, which continued on until it hit a tree.

A Lincoln County, NC, sheriff's deputy fatally shot a man early Saturday morning after he was reportedly dragged across a field.

The incident happened after the driver reportedly fled from a traffic with the deputy hanging from the open driver's side door of his vehicle, ABC 11/Associated Press reports.

While being dragged, the deputy reportedly drew his duty pistol and shot the driver. The deputy was then thrown from the vehicle, which continued on until it hit a tree.

The driver died at the scene. The deputy was not seriously injured.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
