3 CHP Officers Injured in Fiery Crash

A witness said the CHP vehicle was helping conduct a lane closure on the freeway when it was struck by an SUV going 90 to 95 mph.

Three California Highway Patrol officers were injured in a fiery crash on the 105 Freeway Thursday morning in the Los Angeles County city of Downey.

The crash was reported about 1:30 a.m. The officers had been responding to an earlier crash when they were struck by an SUV, CHP Officer Kevin Tao told KTLA.

A witness said the CHP vehicle was helping conduct a lane closure on the freeway when it was struck by an SUV going 90 to 95 mph.

The officer who was standing outside the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, Tao said.

The two officers inside the vehicle were also transported but only suffered moderate injuries, he said.

The driver of the SUV, described only as a female, was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI following the crash, Tao said. She was not injured.
