An Atlanta police officer was rushed to the hospital following a shooting Thursday morning in northwest Atlanta.
Fox 5 reports the officer was hit in the leg and immediate medical assistance from fellow officers prevented the wound from becoming life-threatening.
Assistant Chief Darren Schierbaum told the press that fellow officers used a tourniquet on the wounded officer before he was transported to a local trauma center.
Schierbaum said the officer is a four-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department and that he is in "good spirits." The name of the officer has not been released.
A security guard was detained and questioned by Atlanta police. Schierbaum said the burglary investigation was still active.
