The mother of an NYPD officer was fatally shot at her Queens home Wednesday afternoon after answering her door — and her alleged killer surrendered to police about an hour later, authorities said.
Anna Torres, 51, was shot twice by a gunman who drew her to the door of her two-story, single-family home in Ozone Park at about 2:30 p.m., police said.
Torres was pronounced dead on scene, NYPD Deputy Chief Jerry O’Sullivan said at a Wednesday night press conference.
The suspect in Torres’ death, Giuseppe Canzani, 41, fled in a black Chevy Traverse after the shooting, the New York Post reports.
He later surrendered without incident at the 106th precinct.
It wasn’t immediately clear what motivated Canzani to allegedly fatally shoot Torres.
While the two knew each other “to some extent,” the exact nature of their relationship was not immediately known and did not appear to be romantic, police said.
