According to officials, Deputy Walter Jenkins was directing traffic when he was hit by a vehicle.

A Rockdale County (GA) Sheriff's deputy who was hit by a vehicle and killed Wednesday while on duty.

Authorities say the deadly crash happened at around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 138 and Highway 212, Fox 5 reports.

According to officials, Deputy Walter Jenkins was directing traffic when he was hit by a vehicle.

Officials say the driver remained on the scene until responding deputies arrived.
