The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) today announced Officer Jaclyn Ravelo, of the Phoenix Police Department, as the Officer of the Month for May 2022. Ravelo was selected for this honor after she demonstrated selflessness in donating one of her kidneys to save the life of a friend’s young child.

In early 2019, while scrolling through social media, Ravelo noticed a post from a former softball teammate asking for help. The help was not for herself, but for her 10-year-old-daughter who needed a kidney replacement. Deciding to act from the kindness of her own heart, and without hesitation, the compassionate officer reached out to her former teammate to find out more information. After going through the testing process and finding out she was a match, Ravelo made the selfless decision to save the child’s life by donating one of her kidneys.

“Officer Ravelo simply acted out of the kindness of her heart,” said Marcia Ferranto, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. “Her compassion towards this young girl serves as an inspiration to all. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is honored to present this award to Officer Ravelo and thanks her for her service.”

Ravelo is a proud member of the Phoenix Police Department, where she has served as an officer for five years in addition to being with the Phoenix Police Honor Guard. Prior to joining Phoenix Police Department, Ravelo served two tours overseas in the Marine Corps both in Iraq (2006-07) and in Afghanistan (2011). Due to of covid restrictions with transplant patients, Ravelo was finally able to meet with the young girl in person since the transplant earlier this year in January.
