BWC Video Shows TX Officers Pull Man from Burning Truck

“I saw the car was pretty much fully engulfed, then pretty quickly I learned that somebody was still inside,” says Stephens. ““Clearly there was still a window of opportunity to get that person out.”

Body-worn camera (BWC) footage released today by the McKinney Police Department (TX) shows officers racing to free the occupant of a pickup truck engulfed in flames following a traffic accident July 5.

The crash happened a little after midnight when the driver of a pickup truck slammed into the barrier separating the exit ramp and service road, reports 5NBC.

According to police, the driver was knocked unconscious, and the doors were jammed. Officers Cameron Johnson, Chris Stephens, Cody Minwell, and Brad Williams pulled the unconscious man out just seconds before the entire cab was engulfed in flames.

“I saw the car was pretty much fully engulfed, then pretty quickly I learned that somebody was still inside,” says Stephens. “Clearly there was still a window of opportunity to get that person out.”

Their supervisor, Sgt. Aaron Wilbanks, says had the officers not worked so swiftly to rescue the victim, he is certain the outcome would have been very different.
