DC Police Unveil Amazon Package Lockers at Two Police Stations

"What we’re hoping is if it works well here as a pilot, we’re going to take it to other districts in the city," says Altieri.

Washington, D.C., is the first city in the country where you can pick up your Amazon packages at a police station. Police unveiled package pickup lockers at two police stations this week.

Sixth District Inspector Silvan Altieri came up with the idea to combat porch pirates, thieves that steal packages from people’s front porches.

When people in the area order on Amazon, they’ll have the option to have packages delivered to the police station hubs, reports FOX5. They’ll use Bluetooth on their phones to access the lock boxes.

"What we’re hoping is if it works well here as a pilot, we’re going to take it to other districts in the city," says Altieri.

Children from an area elementary school provided artwork that was used in the design of the front of the lockers. To show gratitude, Amazon donated $15,000 to the school.
