Three safety initiatives were adopted by the Uvalde County Commissioners Court Monday, with the most expensive being a decision to open the bidding process for a new $300,000 communications tower.

Ineffective radio communication was a major problem during the May 24 attack at Robb Elementary that left 19 students and two teachers dead, News 4 reports.

Also approved was $55,000 of tactical safety equipment for five county constables and authorization to pursue a state grant for 22 bullet-resistant shields.
