OK Off-Duty Officer Killed in Crash While Driving Home

The off-duty officer was traveling north on the interstate when a southbound vehicle crossed the median and hit her vehicle as she was driving home.

An Oklahoma City, OK, police officer was killed early Thursday morning in an off-duty vehicle accident in which she was struck by a vehicle that crossed the median. Police have identified the officer as Sgt. Meagan Burke, 31. She joined the department in May 2016.

Police received a call reporting the crash on Interstate 44 around 12:30 a.m. The off-duty officer was traveling north on the interstate when a southbound vehicle crossed the median and hit her vehicle as she was driving home, reports FOX23.

The other driver in the crash was injured and taken to an area hospital. Burke was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Oklahoma City Police Department both are investigating the fatal crash.
