An Atlanta-area officer was shot early Tuesday morning during the pursuit of a suspect driving a stolen vehicle that had been used in an armed robbery. The wounded Chamblee Police Department officer was last reported to be in stable condition.
Around midnight, Chamblee’s traffic camera system notified officers of a stolen vehicle used in an armed robbery passing through the city. They attempted to stop it shortly before 12:30 a.m., reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Police tell FOX5 after the fleeing vehicle crashed, suspects fled on foot and shot at the responding officers, hitting one. One suspect was arrested at the scene but another one, a male, evaded arrest. The one apprehended, police believe, did not fire on officers.
According to police, K-9 officers believe they found the other suspect's clothes during initial searches of the area, but do not know what he is currently wearing. He should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police.
