Man Wanted for Questioning in Murder of Kentucky Officer Arrested
Pikeville Police Department Officer Scotty Hamilton was shot and killed in the line of duty late Tuesday night in Pike County, Kentucky. Investigators later obtained an arrest warrant for John Russell Hall, 55, of Pikeville, for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Investigators want to question Hall about Hamilton's death, according to a press release from the Kentucky State Police on Thursday morning.

The teacher was identified as Dennis Alexander, a reserve police officer for Sand City, according to a press release from the Seaside Police Department. Alexander was believed to have been providing instruction related to public safety awareness when he fired a single shot from a semi-automatic handgun into the ceiling.

Officials in Eastern Kentucky say Officer Scotty Hamilton was shot and killed around 11:30 p.m. Hamilton, along with Kentucky State Police Troopers, were investigating a reported crime in the Hurricane Creek area of Pike County when Hamilton was shot.
