About 350 LAPD officers moved into the area around Crenshaw Boulevard, after the once-peaceful protest turned violent. The protest had begun in Leimert Park on Monday.
Members of the protest attacked a TV reporter and his cameraman, and stormed a Wal-Mart at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza where they threw merchandise on the ground and tried to break open jewelry displays.
In Oakland, a crowd of several hundred people briefly shut down traffic on Interstate 880 on Monday evening. A group of 100 scuffled with police after 11 p.m., reports the Oakland Tribune .
