The widow of Overland Park Police Officer Mike Mosher—who was killed in a gunfight with a hit-and-run suspect over the weekend—recently expressed her love and gratitude for the support the community has shown.
According to KSHB-TV , Mosher's wife Corinne said that "love was evident" as they moved her husband's body in a procession that attracted countless citizens of the community holding signs and American flags along the route.
"We looked into their faces and saw caring in strangers that didn't know us and didn't know Mike," Corrine said, "He belonged to them and they had lost him, too. When I saw that, children standing still in basketball courts (and) ... a young family with several kids and there was a young girl holding a large American flag."
Officer Mosher was off duty—but in his uniform while en route to work—when he witnessed a hit-and-run collision. He called dispatchers as he followed the vehicle until it stopped at an intersection.
The driver exited his vehicle and presented a firearm, leading to a gunfight.
Mosher and the gunman were both killed in the shooting.
Officer Mosher had served with the Overland Park Police Department for more than 14 years.
