WI Officer Stabbed During Welfare Check
A Mosinee, Wisconsin, police officer was stabbed early Friday morning after stopping to check on the welfare of a man lying on a sidewalk.
A Mosinee, Wisconsin, police officer was stabbed early Friday morning after stopping to check on the welfare of a man lying on a sidewalk. The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
The sheriff’s office said Officer Eric Krause stopped to check on the 41-year-old man around 2:15 a.m. and was stabbed by the man. The injured officer immediately called for backup.
When other officers arrived, the 41-year-old did not comply with officers’ orders, so a police dog was deployed, reported WSAW. After the dog was deployed, the man surrendered to officers but sustained injuries.
According to the sheriff’s office, both the officer and the other man were first checked out at the scene but then were taken to an area hospital.
The officer was treated and has been released.
The man accused of stabbing the officer is still in custody pending charges and is being treated for injuries sustained from the canine deployment.
