Wash. Officer Charged In Daughter's Death

Prosecutors have charged a Marysville (Wash.) Police officer with second-degree manslaughter in the death of his 7-year-old daughter who was fatally shot by the officer's son.

Officer Derek Carlile could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of a charge that includes criminal negligence, reports the Statesman-Journal .

The shooting occurred March 10 while the van was parked at a store in Stanwood. Carlile and his wife were outside the van when the couple's 3-year-old son got out of his booster seat, grabbed the weapon and shot his sister Jenna in the torso. The safety of the gun was off.
