Wash. Cop Cleared In Teen's Fatal Shooting

A Tacoma (Wash.) Police officer won't face charges for fatally shooting a teenager who tried to back into him with a stolen car.

Officer Brett Beall acted within the law when he fired into a car driven by Austin Joseph Welling on Nov. 27. Welling, 18, was hit four times and died of his wounds Jan. 31, reports the News Tribune .

The incident followed a pursuit after which Officer Beall had identified a stolen car. The officer approached the car in an alley on foot, when Welling threw the car in reverse toward the officer.
