Virginia Police ID Knife-Wielding Man Fatally Shot While Stabbing Woman

The Richmond (VA) Police Department said on Thursday that the man who was fatally shot by police as he stabbed a woman inside a residence refused orders from responding officers to drop the knife in his hand.

Instead, 33-year-old Anthony Edwards continued his assault, so officers opened fire, police say.

Edwards had reportedly stabbed a total of three people in the home—all three victims knew Edwards, according to WTVR-TV News .

The two officers involved in the incident were placed on paid administrative leave.
