The Norfolk (Va.) Police Department has revamped its defensive tactics training, so cadets will no longer be required to endure strikes to the head or defend themselves when they are exhausted, reports the Virginia Pilot.

Norfolk PD's Acting Police Chief Sharon Chamberlin announced the changes that follow the death of recruit John Kohn , the 40-year-old cadet who died as a result of training injuries in December.
