Police say officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at the AutoNation Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM dealership in Bellevue around 4:18 a.m. When they arrived, they located a male suspect attempting to steal a safe. The suspect was confronted by an officer. He strangled the officer, stole a Dodge Durango from the dealership, and drove away with officers in pursuit, police say.
The suspect crashed head-on into a car during the pursuit, came to a stop, and told police he was surrendering. When officers moved in to arrest him, the suspect ran to a patrol vehicle, and drove off, police say.
Officers from multiple agencies pursued the suspect as he sped through the county in the stolen patrol vehicle, hitting speeds as fast as 110 mph, Fox 13 reports.
The chase ended when officers used spikes to deflate the stolen patrol vehicle’s tires and a Tukwila officer performed a PIT maneuver. Video from officer body cameras shows that the suspect ran from the disabled vehicle and was pursued on foot by Tukwila and Bellevue officers.
Fox 13 reports that the suspect is identified as Dorion Rowe in charging documents.
Rowe—who this year was convicted for fourth-degree assault and faces pending charges of domestic violence and assault—now faces felony charges with first-degree burglary, two counts of vehicle theft, third-degree assault, two counts of attempting to elude police and hit-and-run.
He is currently being held on $250,000 bail.
The Bellevue officer who was strangled was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover, police report.
