A New York police chief was rushed to the hospital after he was shot during a confrontation with a suspect in Orange County.
Police were responding to a domestic incident around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning when they exchanged gunfire with a person they'd been interviewing.
Town of Montgomery Police Chief Arnold "Butch" Amthor was shot and taken to St. Luke’s hospital in Newburgh with non-life threatening injuries, state police told ABC 7 . He was struck in the upper shoulder and was conscious and alert when he arrived at the hospital.
The alleged gunman remained barricaded inside a home. Police found him dead from a gunshot wound inside the residence just before 3 p.m., police told News 12 . Officers added it was unclear whether the man was shot during his initial exchange with first responders or if it was self-inflicted, the New York Daily News reports.
