An Austin (Texas) Police Department officer was fatally shot after responding to a report of an intoxicated man at a Walmart early Friday.
Senior Police Officer Jaime Padron was shot in the neck at point-blank range after arriving at the Walmart off I-35 near Parmer Lane. Officer Padron was shot near the doorway of the store. Two employees then tackled the suspect, reports the Austin American Statesman .
Responding units arrived and arrested Brandon Montgomery Daniel, 24, and booked him into the Travis County Jail. Police had recieved a 911 call about an intoxicated subject at 2:21 a.m.
Officer Padron, a three-year veteran, leaves behind two daughters, 10 and 6, and his parents.
