The Seattle Police Department is investigating one of its veteran officers, after a YouTube video showed him using physical force on a subject after responding to a disturbance in South Seattle.
Officer Clayton Powell, a 19-year veteran, has been placed on administrative leave while the department's Office of Professional Accountability investigates the incident. A department spokesman told the Seattle Times that it appears Officer Powell allowed himself to be baited into a physical confrontation with a man at the basketball courts at John C. Little Park.
The video shows a heated argument between an officer and the man. The video shows the officer shoving the man and the crowd demanding to know why he was pushed. The man then appears to spit in the officer's face. The officer then pushes the man again, as other officer try to control an angry crowd.
