VIDEO: NYPD Officer Wins Impromptu Pull-up Contest Against Neighborhood Teen
Conversations between NYPD Officer Stroman and the Brooklyn youths on his beat often touch on fitness. "This one young man asked me questions about my workouts, so I gave him a few pointers on technique," says Stroman. Before long came the challenge: a pull-up contest with an extra "bodyweight hold" at the end. Officer Stroman was more than happy to oblige.

Police Officer Stroman is a seven-year veteran with the NYPD and a familiar face along Sutter Avenue in Brownsville's 73rd Precinct. His assignment there is part of the NYPD's "Summer All Out" Initiative. This native Brooklynite knows the area well, having grown up there. And now today's neighborhood kids know him. "It wasn't always like this," begins Officer Stroman. "Some of these kids were confrontational at first, but over time they realized I'm no different from them."
Standing six feet tall with a pronounced athletic build, it's not surprising that conversations between the youths and Officer Stroman often touch on fitness. "This one young man asked me questions about my workouts, so I gave him a few pointers on technique," continues Stroman. Before long came the challenge: a pull-up contest with an extra "bodyweight hold" at the end. Officer Stroman was more than happy to oblige. "I liked my chances, but the gun belt and vest definitely made things interesting," Stroman confesses. With Officer Ferril filming, Stroman showed his mettle - besting his rival in this impromptu duel of strength. Imbued with a new respect for one another, the two men gave each other a hug; after which Officer Stroman treated his fitness enthusiast friend to --what else-- a protein shake.
