A video of the release from a New York hospital of an officer who had been badly injured in a vehicle collision April 2 on Long Island has surfaced on social media, showing the officer being wheeled out of the medical facility to the applause of officers flanking the exit walkway.
Dennis Cavanagh—President of the Suffolk County Police Conference—said in a Facebook post , "As many of you know, recently, a police officer from the Riverhead Police Department was severely injured in a PD-10 motor vehicle crash. Rob Sproston has been recovering at University Hospital at Stonybrook since the incident. The outpouring of support for Rob has been nothing less than remarkable."
