A new Denver Police calendar titled "Behind the Badge" features images of officers off duty, contributing to the community and enjoying their hobbies.

"I don’t want to offend any of our firefighters so I’ll say this," Detective Malik Gatling told CBS Denver . "We’re the first guys to do a calendar with our clothes on."

A group of officers’ wives started the project, including Kristen Lopez whose husband,  Sgt. Tony Lopez, Jr. , was nearly killed in the line of duty last year.

“We know this won’t appeal to everybody, but we are hoping even the people who hate police officers will see them in a different light," Lopez said during the unveiling ceremony Wednesday.

Behind the Badge calendars can be purchased at  Alpine Bank locations or on  Amazon.com . A $20 donation or more is requested. All proceeds benefit the Denver Police Foundation.
