Seven people were shot, including two police officers, after an ambush-style attack on a Philadelphia police sergeant that led to a fatal shootout in West Philadelphia. An innocent civilian and the gunman are dead.
Police say Sgt. Sylvia Young, a 19-year veteran with the Philadelphia Police Department, was sitting in her patrol car around 11:20 P.M. when she was ambushed by the suspect.
She was shot eight times, mostly in the left arm. Police say her body armor protected her during the assault.
The suspect fled on foot, and police gave chase. The suspect shot multiple civilians in what has been described as a rampage. One woman was killed when the suspect reportedly shot into her car.
The chase continued and culminated with a shootout between the suspect and police.
A University of Pennsylvania police officer, identified as 56-year-old Eddie Miller, was was hit in the leg and buttocks.
The suspect was shot and killed, 6ABC reports.
