A Houston Police officer "let her emotions get the best of her" when she punched a handcuffed armed robbery suspect, she said in a statement Friday.
A Houston Police officer "let her emotions get the best of her" when she punched a handcuffed armed robbery suspect, she said in a statement Friday.
Officer Angela Horton, 36, issued the statement through her attorney a day after Chief Charles McClelland relieved her of duty on Thursday, after a local news station aired footage of the incident. Officer Horton has been on the force since 2007.
Here's the account from the Houston Chronicle:
Houston officers had responded to a 911 call of a robbery attempt by three armed men at a convenience store north of downtown. One suspected robber jumped on a train, but was quickly detained by two officers.
A KTRK-Channel 13 helicopter crew was recording the encounter as Horton walked up to the group. The officer stopped in front of the handcuffed suspect and punched him in the face.
